Visiting the in-laws in Southern California for Thanksgiving and went for a walk in the adjacent neighborhood. Orange County 50 to 100 years ago was largely agricultural but now is a vast suburban sprawl spreading south of Los Angeles. Not all of the houses look like these, of course, but they are representative of thousands of subdivisions that have cropped up in the past 50 years, or so. "The OC" is on longer a bastion of white Republicanism - this neighborhood is a virtual melting pot of ethnicities staking their claim on the American Dream.
