Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.

Sangy'e
This being the last hour of the last day of 2011, I decided to post one of my favorite images from the past year. It was a snowy day in March or April I met Sangy'e tendzin, riding his bike near the Ashland Post Office. He volunteers at the Buddhist Center and also carves walking sticks and what he calls magic wands. He's originally from upstate New York and refers to himself as a "recovering project manager from the corporate world." Today his mission is to employ a sense of humor in conveying a message of hope and goodwill, a timely one as we begin a New Year.
