During the Memorial Day ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery, a gathering of Ashlanders listened to veterans relating their experiences and the Southern Oregon Concert Band play patriotic selections. One of the those in attendance was Charlie Beecham, who served 30 years as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He flew B-17's during WWII and later participated in the Berlin Airlift, which he says was his most satisfying assignment.
