Maia Black tills her section of land in the Ashland Community Garden under the watchful tutelage of Master Gardener Denny Morelli. Denny lends his support and advice to members growing veggies, berries, and flowers in what is part of the Ashland Creek flood plain. He says the location presents a number of challenges, including a high level of decomposed granite in the soil and an active gopher population. Still, participants cultivate a satisfactory yield as well as camaraderie and friendships in the process.
