Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.

Fountain Flushing
The drinking fountains on the downtown plaza require cleaning and flushing on a regular basis. They dispense a spring water called "Lithia Water" which is purported to have healing properties. The high level of lithium and other minerals are said to provide that curative effect - but they also cause the fountain's pipes to get blocked up - hence the need for the plunger. The workman was quick to point out that the tool is solely for the drinking fountains and not used for any other purpose.
