Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.

Festival of Light Parade
Every Friday after Thanksgiving, the Festival of Light Parade and Grand Illumination takes place downtown Ashland. A short procession of holiday-themed floats, including one carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus in a sled, ferries down Main Street to the Plaza - where Santa presides over the switching on of thousands of lights on buildings and trees along the Plaza. As the parade makes it way down the street, a large crowd (the one you see here) follows it to its Plaza destination. Spectators gaze down from windows along the route - including guests staying at the Columbia Hotel and a lady and antlered friend in the Elks Lodge Building.
