The Atkinson Memorial Bridge spanning Ashland Creek in Lithia Park is currently undergoing a major renovation. Built in 1912, it has experienced normal deterioration from age as well as damage from occasional flooding of the creek. During the most recent incident in 1997, the bridge was fully engulfed in water and debris from an extraordinary amount of snowmelt in the Ashland watershed. Trees and rocks washed downstream bombarded the structure with tremendous force, creating cracks in the structure.
Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.
