Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.

Abundance Swap
The annual Ashland Abundance Swap took place at the historic old Armory Building on Oak Street today. Organized by Ashland resident Jeff Golden 10 years ago, the event enables individuals to exchange gifts without bartering or any money changing hands. The concept is simple: Each person brings 3-5 items, preferably, "well made, beautiful or interesting" that they would like to exchange. Then they are free to choose something(s) that they might like that someone else brought. Run entirely by volunteers, the Abundance Swap, as explained by Jeff, "offers the opportunity to focus our gift giving, not as an obligation but a practice, and it connects us to people and puts us in touch with our natural generosity."
