We just returned from a 5-day road trip to Southern Idaho. Our journey took us through Northern California, Northern Nevada, Idaho, and Eastern Oregon. Large swaths of the American landscape contain few people; instead a stark, arid beauty that is both serene and somewhat daunting in its isolation.
On a long downhill grade along Route 140 in Eastern Oregon, the late afternoon sun created a well-defined shadow of the car on the face of the road embankment.
