Smoke from wildfires in Southern Oregon and Northern California has been filling the Rogue Valley over the past week. That's not unusual this time of year, but drought conditions have resulted in more numerous and longer-burning fires this summer. The air quality has been fluctuating between "unhealthy" and "very unhealthy" while containment of the blazes doesn't seem likely in the near future. I'm reminded of my younger days living in and breathing Los Angeles smog.
Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.
