Ashland, Oregon is a town of 21,000 that has a lot in common with other small towns across America. It also has qualities that make it truly unique. Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University, people from various backgrounds and places have chosen to call Ashland home. As a photographer, I thought it would be a worthwhile project to document the varied aspects of Life in Ashland.

Workin' on the Railroad
Evidently, railway freight service through town between northern California and Medford, OR to the north is going to resume sometime soon. The tunnel near the CA-OR border required extensive repair due to a fire a few years ago and trains stopped running on this branch. Now that the tunnel is operational again, workmen are getting the track back into shape. Unfortunately, no passenger trains will be coming through. They ceased running through Ashland in August of 1955. Passenger service along the west coast of the U.S. instead passes through Klamath Falls, 60 miles to the east.
