Tobias Wolff

Tobias Wolff, novelist, short story writer, memoirist, and teacher signs books after speaking to a near-capacity audience at the Ashland High School Mountain Avenue Theatre last night.  He recounted his "addiction to reading" while growing up in Concrete, Washington, the setting of his memoir, This Boy's Life.  He liked to write short stories and conjectured that a pivotal point might have been when a 9th grade classmate told him he ought to be a writer.  That initial suggestion was like a "homeopathic tincture" that influenced the way he perceived himself and the world around him - and might have led to his becoming a writer.
